The local Alfa club put on a tech session for convertible top replacement. Bring your car, parts, and willingness to get your hands dirty and in two days you’ll have a new top. I was the only one who showed up.

Overall the process went very well. We made a couple mistakes, and ended up having to do more work than anticipated, but overall it looks fantastic. I’ll have to get better shots of it later.

Wow it looks nice. It looks much better than I remember. Is it just a new top and rockers or has more been done?

I was the only one who showed up.

I was gonna say, as a guy who also has an old Spider with a replacement top, this event didn’t really sound like it had a wide target audience.

Fresh rags are always nice! Cool that the club put this tech session on just fo r you. My dad loves these Alfa spiders. He worked at an Alfa dealership in the 70s in Colorado and had a couple before I was born. Then he actually  bought a non runner around 2006 before immidiately selling it.

Depends on how far you go back. Around March of last year it got the wheels, rocker work, and a little bit lowered .  Might just look good because I actually washed it haha.  But yeah, the top makes a big difference.

That looks great, and new tops are always nice.

That said, after replacing the top on my former miata, convertible tops are something that I will never, ever do myself again. There’s no special magic involved, but it is a long, long and tedious job, of which no part was particularly enjoyable. I learned why my mentor who owned a miata shop didn’t mess around with them and instead farmed out his probably 40+ top replacements a year to a friend’s upholstery shop. That is a check you write to the upholstery shop with a smile on your face.
